20200708 (Wednesday) Coronavirus Digest from Japanese Morning TV News Part 1 (of probably 1): Main News
Unsurprisingly, corona news took a back seat today on most channels.
There isn’t a lot of news on the covid-front in Japan anyway.
I have just pulled up the numbers from the NHK website again.
And I will include a couple of news stories in the comments below.
In world news, the Brazilian president has tested positive for Covid19 but is shrugging it off.
And apparently the US has officially declared its intention to leave the WHO.
See photo captions for stories.

211 new cases yesterday which brings the total cases this year in Japan to over 20,000 (20,209)
[or the equivalent of a weekend in Florida]
17197 cases have already been discharged
[However, discharged cases as a % of total cases has slipped down this week from 89% to 85%, as in the number of active cases as a percentage of total cases is on the rise, albeit slightly]
106 in Tokyo
27 in Saitma
8 in Kanagawa
11 in Chiba
12 in Osaka
9 in Kyoto
2 in Nara
7 in Fukuoka
9 in Kagoshima
Another 5 in quarantine after coming back from overseas.
1 in Hyogo yesterday, but I read that 3 of the four cases from the day before were in Kobe and involved doctors, etc. from the Shinko hospital – the one next to the railway lines between Nada and Sannomiya.
Some notes and exchanges from the comments:
Mainichi headline: 2 maiko in Kyoto’s entertainment district contract coronavirus, infection route unknown
SY: Oh while I remember, on last night’s news, the Tokyo metropolitan government said it was advising people against unnecessary travel to other prefectures, while the national task force guy Nishimura told a news conference that the government’s stance was that such an advisory is unnecessary.
BBC headline: Trump moves to pull US out of World Health Organization
Mainichi headline: Teen pregnancy inquiries surge at Tokyo center amid virus-related school suspensions
JT: The reasons for more enquiries are they didn’t get their sex Ed class at the end of G3 JHS this year?! So presumably all/most of those pregnant are SHS G1. And they didn’t have enough money to buy contraception due to no part-time job?! Really? Really? Nothing to do with having nothing to do then. Oh! Oh!
SY: Sounds like they had plenty to do…
JT: If only they hadn’t missed that one sex Ed session, their lives would have been different.
SY: It’s definitely not a class you should pull out of…
Mainichi headline: 12 Akihabara maid cafe staff test positive for coronavirus: Tokyo health center
SY: Bad news for frillseekers.
