Today’s Japan Covid-related NHK morning news topics:
– New cases in Tokyo top 100 for the third straight day
– J-league top division soccer restarts with no spectators

In other news, Kumamoto got a bunch of damage after record rainfall.
2 dead and 16 people in a state of cardiac arrest (most of those from an old people’s home that was hit when a river overflowed its banks).
3 firefighters and a police officer are missing after entering a warehouse to investigate a fire.

Lots of scenes of cars messed up, vending machines knocked over and people on their roofs waiting to be rescued in Kyushu.

And there was a mild earthquake in Gifu this morning.

All of which meant that they didn’t get around to the numbers today until 7:23.

274 new cases yesterday.
Too many places affected to name them all. Places with bigger numbers:
131 in Tokyo
20 in Kanagawa, 15 in Chiba, 27 in Saitama
34 in Kagoshima
6 in Fukuoka.
17 in Osaka
9 in Kyoto
Another 6 in quarantine after coming back from overseas.
1 in Hyogo (and I just saw a bulletin say that a new case in Hyogo is a male junior high school teacher in his 30s).

The news noted than some prefectures were getting their first cases in a long time.
Namely:
Nagasaki, this is their first case since April 17.

Photo 06
Yamagata, first case since May 4

Photo 07
Nara, first case since May 27

[Iwate is still a virus virgin…]

Photo 08
131 new cases in Tokyo, their third consecutive day over 100 and the most since May 02.
However, nearly three quarters of these are in their 20s and 30s.

Photo 09
62 cases are connected to Host and Cabaret clubs, with 52 of those being from the Shinjuku area.
[So infection-wise, it really is the Hostess with the Mostest.]

The Tokyo government is asking people to curtail non-urgent, non-essential travel to other prefectures [16 days after they OKed it…]

And cautioning people to be careful around night businesses, for example by choosing establishments that have put in place suitable prevention measures.

[The other day a TV show mentioned that Tokyo(?) or Shinjuku(?) had a sticker system for businesses that had taken appropriate measures (which you can display in your shop window ). However, uptake has been low, with one of the reasons being that a lot of shops didn’t even know it existed.]

Lastly, the second half of the J1 season got underway yesterday to empty stadiums [so no change there, amirite?]
